A short History

Chrome Star Radio has a rich history in it's own right as platform and those that have worked on it. It's roots can be traced back to the late 1980's when a group of North London friends began DJing and MCing together at a selected house. Influenced by the elder Caribbean generations the group practiced at one of their homes and developed the skills before holding a few parties where they displayed their skills. Before long they were then invited to perform at other events around London. The group went through various names and bulit slowly as they made their way up the the northen London events scene.

Where?

Moving into the early 90's through group became popular in North London, Hertfordshire, Cambridgeshire. As the group joined Southgate College they became popular with many people from South , East and West London. They quickly developed a bond with fellow North Londoners and many from the East End. The group expanded and began to play outside of London on a regular basis. Once established the Dj's and MC's created their own pirate station and also played on others. North and East London became a hotbed for pirate stations influenced by previous generations. South London then had a flow of grime artists starting to devlop around the same time. For the next decade the group stayed strong and stuck to what they did best with the station developing and the group moving into Event Promotion groups Dope Events and Flirting Promotions. As time moved on and everyone began to go their own ways a few memebers kept the vibe alive with a station online and Garrio leading on events and promotion under the Chrome Star Banner.

Below is a flashback to where the station's older brother was in it's element in the early 90's leading with the best in Soul, RnB, Reggae, Hardcore, Drum & Bass, Acid, Jungle, House, Garage, Grime.

Where?

North London is the true home of Chrome Star. From its humble beginnngs and name changes also the partnerships with other groups the promotion has always had its base in North London. The promotion over the years have worked in collabs with other groups and promotions leading to country wide exposure.

What?

The group and station started from humble beginings. Individuals with Caribbean heritage met at school and college and hung as youngsters do. A common interest was of course music. They all came t ogether with their individual skills and created a group. Garrio came from a Soul, Reggae and Swing background and learnt from older cousins and uncles about the Sound System scene. He was a DJ of these genres but had great abilities in promotions which became vital for the group later. His cousin Synkro was also a DJ which was his sole passion. Others in the group were Dj's and MC's. The musical scene changed in the early 90's with the arrival of Hardcore, Acid, Asid House, Drum & Bass, Jungle House, Garage then Grime. The group specialised in all these genres.

Why?

It was meant to be. A way of life for younsgters. Most from a Caribbean heritage it was easy and natural path to take with a group of talented individuals. The group were very popular around London and this helped to carry on their work for many years. As everyone moved on individuals carried on their work and still developing and growing and one day will return as a group.
